PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:
The Native Fitness and Nutrition (FAN) Program operates a fitness center, and coordinates sports and physical activities for Native community members of all ages. We believe that by promoting healthy community activities such as physical fitness, sports, and cultural activities, we are helping to create safe spaces for our relatives to come together.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist with Native FAN fitness center and physical activities/sports in the gymnasium.
- Implement weekly physical fitness activities, which may include volleyball, basketball, walking clubs, and fitness classes.
- Implement basketball tournaments according to grant requirements.
- Assist in recruiting participants for sports and physical activity sessions.
- Communication/dissemination of activities calendar to community and partners.
- Meet all project reporting requirements.
- Attend all Minneapolis American Indian Center (MAIC) staff meetings, Native FAN meetings, and participate in community events as it pertains to Native FAN.
- Coordinate and assist at Community Wellness / Health Fairs.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience in the implementation of sports and fitness activities for the American Indian community.
- Ability to motivate community members to pitch in and support the community/ supervisory skills.
- Possess excellent motivational and communication skills.
- Ability to multi-task, demonstrate initiative and have a strong work ethic.
- Current CPR/AED Certification a plus.
- Knowledge and understanding of health disparities faced by the urban American Indian community.
- Possess knowledge of Data Privacy and confidentiality Policies for social services agencies.
- Must pass criminal background check.
- Must have no drug/alcohol/substance abuse related problems.
