Job Description

POSITION:  Youth Activities Assistant
PROGRAM:  Boys & Girls Club of the Minneapolis American Indian Center
SALARY: $16-17/hour, 20-25 hours per week

 

POSITION SUMMARY

The primary responsibility of the Youth Activities Assistant is to work as part of a team of individuals in providing direct services to youth.  The Youth Activities Assistant will assist in the implementation of cultural, academic, recreational, and health related activities and assist in community outreach. The position is housed within the Boys & Girls Club of the Minneapolis American Indian Center.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assists in the planning, facilitation, and evaluation of groups and activities for youth within existing program formats.  Activities focus on skills development in communication, academics, problem-solving, leadership, community-engagement, as well as culture and health/wellness.
  • Lead small and large youth activity groups focused on enrichment activities.
  • Provide a positive experience for youth within the program and during sponsored field trips.
  • Ability to transport youth to and from activities in the MAIC Boys & Girls Club vehicle.
  • Function as part of the team, attending planning meetings, and assisting in events.
  • Work as a member of a team to research and plan activities to carry out the program’s goals.
  • Maintain cleanliness and efficiency of program area.
  • Assist in community outreach for recruitment and program resources.
  • Assist in the supervision and development of volunteers.
  • Participate in orientation/training to gain the understanding to carry out program goals.
  • Maintain confidentiality when working with children and staff.
  • Participate in Minneapolis American Indian Center staff meetings and training events.
  • Additional duties as assigned by supervisor.

 

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience engaging American Indian youth and/or families in an out-of-school time setting is preferred.
  • Knowledge of the Minneapolis American Indian community, cultural values, and cultural practices is preferred.
  • Great interpersonal skills, and the ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally.
  • Should be a self-starter; demonstrate an ability to initiate and complete tasks.
  • Able to pass a criminal background check.
  • Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license, be insurable, and able to operate a company owned vehicle.

 

OTHER IMPORTANT INFORMATION

  • This is an onsite role, expect during field trips and youth transport to/from the Club.
  • Days of work are typically Monday through Friday, with a combination of daytime and evening hours, and occasional weekends.  Schedule varies from summer to school year.
