Job Description

POSITION:  Tribal Liaison Supervisor, Full Time, Non-Exempt

ORGANIZATION: Minneapolis American Indian Center

PROGRAM: Family Services/ICWA Program

SALARY:  55,000 – 60,000/year, benefits eligible

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in social work or a related field or four years’ experience in case management, legal advocacy; or secondary coursework/ and job experience in social services.
  2. Knowledge of the Indian Child Welfare Act, Minnesota Indian Family Preservation Act, and other related legislation.
  3. Experience supervising staff preferred.
  4. Must possess excellent communication, written, and case management skills.
  5. Must possess strong computer skills.
  6. Possess awareness of the Native American community and its needs.
  7. Knowledge of the Data Privacy Policies for social services agencies.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supervise two to three staff Tribal Liaisons and other ICWA staff.
  • Assess the legal and social service needs of the clients.
  • Carry a small caseload of ICWA cases.
  • Attend Child in Need of Protective Services (CHIPS) hearings in District Court – in metro area.
  • Gather information and communicate clearly between the Tribes, County Social Services & Courts in regard to the current case facts involving tribal members involved in the CHIPS court proceedings and Child Protection agency.
  • Refer clients to culturally appropriate social, educational, employment and other services – as needed.
  • Have strong case management skills and be able to provide some case management when necessary.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Maintain and keep timely records, and correspondence with tribes, all court notification, and all county social service contact(s) case information.
  • Maintain statistical data and submit quarterly reports.
  • Attend monthly staff meetings, ICWA meetings, and participate in community events as it pertains to ICWA – as necessary.
  • Arrange Case Review Meetings quarterly.
  • Various duties as assigned by Program Director.
  • Must have no drug/alcohol/substance abuse related problems.
  • Must complete and pass background check.
  • Reliable transportation required w/valid Minnesota driver’s license and current insurance.
