Job Description

POSITION:                   Physical Activity/Violence Prevention Coordinator

PROGRAM:                 Native Fitness & Nutrition (FAN)

HOURS:                       Full-time, 40 hours/week

SCHEDULE:                  Flexible/varied some days, evenings and weekends

SALARY:                      $24-25/hour, FTE salary of $50,000

CLOSING DATE:          January 15, 2024

The Native FAN Program operates a Fitness Center, and coordinates sports and physical activities for Native community members of all ages.  We believe that by promoting healthy community activities such as physical fitness, sports, and cultural activities, we are helping to create safe spaces for the community to come together.


  • Assist with Native FAN fitness center, and physical activities/sports in the gymnasium.
  • Implement weekly physical fitness activities, which may include volleyball, basketball, walking clubs and fitness classes.
  • Assist in recruitment of participants for sports and physical activity sessions.
  • Recruit group of community members from existing participants to be trained as community peacekeepers, and coordinate training of these individuals to provide security and support during MAIC sports and cultural events
  • Supervise this group of community peacekeepers and coordinate their schedules for events.
  • Collection of necessary data for reporting requirements.
  • Communication/dissemination of activities calendar to community and partners.
  • Meet all project reporting requirements.
  • Attend monthly staff meetings, Native FAN meetings, and participate in community events as it pertains to Native FAN- as necessary.
  • Various duties as assigned by Project Director.


    • High school diploma or equivalent.
    • Experience in the implementation of sports and fitness activities for American Indian community.
    • Ability to motivate community members to pitch in and support the community/supervisory skills
    • Possess excellent motivational and communication skills.
    • Ability to multi-task, demonstrate initiative and have a strong work ethic.
    • Current CPR/AED Certification upon hire.
    • Knowledge and understanding of health disparities faced by the urban American Indian community.
    • Possess Knowledge of the Data Privacy and confidentiality Policies for social services agencies.
    • Must pass criminal background check.
    • Must have no drug/alcohol/substance abuse related problems.
    • Reliable transportation required w/valid Minnesota driver’s license and proof of current insurance.
