An Exhibit that explores the language of Dakota and Ojibwe people in translating the titles and meanings of the artworks within this exhibit.

Language is the heart and soul of a culture, and the continuance of culture can only occur through the ancestral language. In our Native communities, there continues to be naming ceremonies that give direction and identify to a Natives. The universe and its gives are describe in prayers and ceremonies in traditional languages. these powerful languages are still threatened; we must believe that language will continue to be used and valued. The language of the people often defines their worldview and perpetuates the importance of culture. In Native communities we are known for being great orators: statements from the past reflect on the thoughtfulness of words and the power of Native languages. We will explore the language of Dakota and Ojibwe people in translating the tittles and meaning of the artworks within this exhibition.
