So, What is the Strengthening Families Program?

The Strengthening Families Program is a comprehensive opportunity that focuses on 

10-14 year olds and their families to teach basic family communication skills ("showing love") and parenting/family management skills ("setting limits").  

The SFProgram furnishes the opportunity to :

The strengthening families program is a program primarily built to strengthening families within the Native American people. It brings families together and opens the communication between parent(s) and child(ren). The SFP is a 7 session program focusing on reducing family related risk factors for adolescent problem behaviors and building protective factors in young adolescent children and their parents.

In a study it shows children do better when the parent(s) have 2 basic skills and they are: consistent discipline and showing support. The SFP helps enhances these qualities by sharing with each other in a group, doing worksheets and participating in fun activities.

Sessions are once a week for eight weeks.

 

  • Each session begins with a home cooked meal.

  • The first hour, parents and youth meet separately.

  • The second hour, parents and youth meet together.
